My New Code

My new system would consist of squares that would either be filled in or blank. For example, if you wanted to represent the number one, you would have blank-blank-blank-blank-filled. The number 14 would be blank-filled-filled-blank-filled. I think this is a very efficient way to represent numbers other than the binary code.

Computers and Binary

  • Phones encode sound and transport it to your headphones through a metal wire
  • When a low pressure is sensed in the sound, the phone sends a low voltage
  • An analog signal is a signal that's proportional to the value it represents

  • I did not understand the voltage for the numbers in the computers
  • Digital signals are quite confusing

Google Boys

1.)Google was created by two extremely inventive Stanford PhD dropouts. They created a way to streamline all the data from the internet into one search engine, which provided you with your search results.

2.) Google initially lacked funding and needed money to get off the ground. Another struggle was competitors like Bing and Yahoo who tried to imitate them and steal business.

3.) They have a top secret algorithm that allows Google to sort web pages by importance using key words. It also takes pride in being one of the fastest search engines in the world.

4.) They sent out "spiders" to collect and copy web pages and index them for the searches.

Eliza

I do not find Eliza to be human-like. I think her responses are way too general and do not actually provide a conversation. I would have her learn to respond more accurately, and try to hold a simple conversation. I do not expect much of the computer, but it more of the programmer's dedication to making her more emotional. With the way technology is now, I do see that the future holds computers that can provide emotional responses. It may take hundreds of years, but I do think it is possible.

Anishinaabe Arcs

  • 6 clans, established by spiritual beings called miigis
  • Family of languages called Anishaabe
  • Hunted and fished, mobility of shelter was necessary
  • Material objects needed to be light/strong
  • Wood used was elastic, allowed it to be bent and return to shape
  • Also allowed it to support more weight than usual
  • "Wiigaam" had arcs along two axes
  • Could also be used to make canoes
